Celina
Fire Department History
The
Celina Fire Department was established in circa 1912 consisting
of residents of the City of Celina and the surrounding area. Originally,
the fire station was in back of what is now City Hall at 302 W.
Walnut St. The department purchased its first new fire engine
in 1938, which it still owns. At present, we have two Pierce Custom
Cab engines, a 2005 Peterbilt 330 Brush Truck, a 1996 Chevrolet
3500 Brush Truck and a 1964 Chevrolet Engine.
In
December of 2001 the first full time fire fighter was hired by
the City in the capacity of Fire Chief, and in December of 2004
a second firefighter was hired. At present, the Department's career
staffing consists of a Fire Chief, a Fire Marshal, an EMS Division
Chief, a Fire Inspector, three firefighter/EMT's, and five firefighter/paramedics.
On
December 1, 2007, the Department initiated its own EMS service.
Two fully equipped ambulances were acquired. Medic 1 is staffed
for first-out response to any medical emergency in the fire district.
Medic 2 is staffed any time that Medic 1 is out on a call so that
there is always a backup capability.
In
2007, the Department began an Explorer program with the Boy Scouts
of America. Young men and women aged 14 to 18 and a high school
student. The explorers are given instruction on equipment, procedures
and fire department operations. They accompany firefighters to
incident scenes (often in one of the fire trucks) and assist the
firefighters.
The
fire district for the Celina Fire Department consists of approximately
100 square miles from the Denton County Line on the west to FM
2478 on the east and from Frontier Parkway (FM 1461) on the south
to the Grayson County Line on the north.
Over
the years, many people have volunteered for the Department. At
present, the Celina Fire Department is a combination department
with twelve career and sixty-four volunteer members for a total
of 76 fire, medical and support personnel, both men and women
who give of their time and talents to the citizens of Celina and
the surrounding area. The Department is actively seeking additional
volunteers. The requirements are detailed below.
